  • Alaska is Calling: New Video Project

Alaska has always been on my bucket list of places to go — what better location for someone who loves being in the outdoors? But there was always somewhere a little closer, or a little less expensive to travel to. Or when time and budget weren’t major factors, then Alaska wasn’t that far away after all — […]

  • Don’t Like the Photo? Wait Five Minutes

There’s a saying in the mountains: If you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes – it’ll change. As photographers, we often need to wait for a photograph to come together; sometimes it only takes a few seconds, sometimes a few days. But whether we’re waiting for a storm to pass, a moment to happen, […]

  • Video: Backpacking From a Dog’s Point-of-View

So there we were, slowly making our way up the switchbacks towards the ridge overlooking Silver Lake in the Sierra Nevada. All in a line: human, dog, dog, human. Tramp, tramp, tramp. While I only had one clear sunset over the course of a few days, there was usually some time during the day we could get out and about, and we tried to make the most of it.

  • Photo Tip: Photograph Storm Light for Dramatic Photos

While it’s easy to think about putting your camera away when a storm rolls in, that’s often the best time to capture dramatic light, and potentially make dramatic photos.

  • New Photos: Favorites from 2011

As 2011 wraps up, I wanted to share a few of my favorite nature and landscape photos of the year, all from California. Half Moon Bay During a trip to Half Moon Bay, the clouds defeated me for sunrise, so I walked out to Pillar Point to create a more moody image, taking advantage of […]

  • August Photo Gallery: Sierra Nevada

This month’s photo gallery features pictures from the Sierra Nevada mountains in California. The Sierra Nevada stretches over 400 miles, and is covered by a continuous line of national forests and parks, making it an outdoor recreation paradise. Not too bad for photos, either. • New Pictures of Colorado

I’ve added 130 photos of Colorado to the website, although the photos aren’t new, strictly speaking: these pictures of Colorado were on my old website, but most have been re-scanned and touched up to get them looking even better.
