I met Megean and Cameron when I photographed Sydnie and Scott’s wedding last year; Cameron is Sydnie’s brother, and Megean was one of Sydnie’s bridesmaids. I was delighted when they contacted me about photographing their upcoming wedding in Auburn, California. I had a lot of fun at Sydnie and Scott’s wedding, and I’m looking forward to working with the family again.
This was actually the first engagement session I’ve done, and I think we were both a little nervous. They chose Old Sacramento in Sacramento, California, as an area that was special to them, and it turned out to be an awesome location — there were so many great spots it was hard to choose where to go.

There must have been a biker convention in town, as Harleys were roaring up and down the street all afternoon. I was on the other side of the street for several shots, and had to yell my instructions: “OKAY NOW GIVE HIM A KISS!” Trying to make lemonade out of lemons, I took several shots with the bikers as they passed by. Sometimes you just get lucky with the timing:

Really, there were times I just shut up and pressed the shutter release — Megean and Cameron did the rest on their own.

I like to use natural light whenever possible, and was delighted when the sun just barely poked through the otherwise overcast skies. A bit of careful arranging, and it looks like a designed studio shot with lights. Nope — just the good old sun.
